Studio Revamp

Wednesday 15 December 2010

Hey Guys,

Much to my disappointment Dec. 6th was in fact our last broadcast of the year. While I didn't personally get to bid ado this past year with all of you I'm stoked that our last show, the Who's Shuggah New School Thrash and Grind Special, was such an epic success. Thanks to the presenting skills of our very own Kit Simpson and the uproarious accompaniment from a Mr. Rory A. Hughes, I think we've all been fulfilled until next year ;)

For those of you who just can't stand to wait for more Who's Shuggah, you can re-listen to all our pasts shows, linked in our 'Previous Shows' post.

We've been informed that once the studio reopens in the new-year it will be fully revamped and better than ever... with equipment and systems- so hopefully we'll have the utilities to bring you an even more kick-ass show every week!

Until we're back on the air, which will probably be January 10th, don't forget to keep your ears to the ground and you might just hear us screaming.

Also, you should take advantage of Piss Fork's free download of ((Thorlock))'s self-titled LP. I just happened to find one of their tracks floating around my desktop and when I saw they'd played with Weedeater and Eyehategod... trust me, I downloaded it immediately! ;)

Take care Metal Merchants,
-Melissa

THE Neurosis Gig

Thursday 9 December 2010

Finding my way through Kokos for the first time was a complete maze- staircases led different directions & up into multiple floors corridors. Out in the smoking area one found themselves situated on a patio directly below the huge lit sign glowing 'Koko'. Heading inside, and after refusing to pay £8 for a double mix, I guarded my cozy spot on the 3rd floor like no man's business, ready to be awed. Couldn't say I was too smitten by Daniel Higgs, but I digress...

The amazing performance put on by Neurosis was only enhanced by the visualizations projected behind the band. Although I couldn't see them for myself from my spot on the balcony (quite a shame), whenever I was able to catch a glimpse from the convenient screens fixed above I could feel the power of the images. This promo for 'Given To The Rising' (their latest album from 2007) paints a very accurate picture of what the gig was like.

While my favorite concerts list continues to grow, this Neurosis gig holds a special place. The raw intensity I've always known existed in their music now holds only part of my attention as I've just begun to realize the dark beauty that lies within it as well.

Setlist (to the best of my knowledge):
At the End of the Road

The Doorway

*Unknown New Song*
Given to the Rising

The Web
Locust Star

Water Is Not Enough

Distill (Watching the Swarm)
not a very good one (for video quality, that is)

Stones from the Sky

Through Silver In Blood

and up close ;)

...a gig I was most definitely not disappointed by ;)
